Defend is a strategy card that is given automatically when starting a new save file.
Appearance
It appears as a blue-colored card, depicting a three-pointed shield located within the center.
Usage
In battle, using the card will restore Special Points
2 (Special Points
1 in multiplayer), grant the player Attributes#Defense
20% damage immunity (rounded up, which deflects a minimum of Combat
1), blocks status effects from attacks, prevent secondary effects from attacks (e.g. Special Points
SP Steal, Cruel King DX
Blackrock King's Knock from swapping positions and Famine from deleting an item), halve the Heart Points
HP rolling speed, and increasing the guard and super-guard frames by 50%. Attacks that Combat#Pierce Defense
Pierce Defense ignores the additional damage immunity.
While playing Solo, Defend will restore Special Points
2 instead and will skip the Player's second turn. However, on the player's second turn, the Defend option will instead be replaced with Pass on the Player's second turn, only restoring Special Points
2.
The Special Points
SP gain of Defense can be increased by equipping a SP Regen+.
Auto-defending
Auto-Defending is when a player defends when not previously selecting it. This will usually happens when someone does not select a move in time during multiplayer, or when a player with the Status Effects#Turn Based
FREEZE effect applied is cured with Status Effects#Passive Buffs
FINE from another player in the party.

- Prior to a Demo 5 patch, If the player uses Defend in single-player whilst under the effects of Status Effects#Turn Based
DIZZY or Status Effects#Turn Based
CONFUSION, and their turn is replaced with being too dizzy/confused to defend, they will not gain the effects of Defend yet will still have their second turn skipped as if they defended. - Prior to Demo 5, this card restored Special Points
1 when playing solo instead of Special Points
2 along with Pass.
